The Second Annual Conference on WWII in the Philippines on October 29, 2016 at Koret Auditorium at the San Francisco Main Public Library was part of a weekend series of events on WWII in the Philippines organized by Bataan Legacy Historical Society (BLHS) in collaboration with Memorare Manila 1945, the Philippine Consulate General and the San Francisco Main Public Library.  Speakers from the Philippines and across the United States gathered together to educate the public about the Filipino and American soldiers and civilians who suffered and sacrificed so much during WWII.  Opening the conference were the soldiers of the 91st Division who posted both the U.S. and Philippine flags whilel Tiffany Carandang sang both national anthems.  Lt. Col. (Ret.) Rod Dela Concepcion led the invocation.
Philippine Consul General Henry Bensurto, Jr. welcomed the attendees.
Cecilia Gaerlan gave a presentation of the salient points of WWII in the Philipppines that were included in the revised U.S. history curriculum framework for Grade 11 (Chapter 16) in California.
Lt. General (Retired) Edward Soriano spoke about the great importance of the inclusion of WWII in the Philippines in the Grade 11 U.S. history curriculum framework in California, the first time that this seminal part of WWII history will be required teaching for high school not just in California but in the entire United States.  He is the highest ranking Filipino American in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Paul Ruiz gives an overview of the Philippine Scouts and the Battle of Bataan.
